Working at height

The work at height regulations 2005 (amended)

In 2005/06 falls from height accounted for 46 fatal accidents at work and around 3350 major injuries. They remain the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injury. This revised leaflet is written for employers, the self-employed and anyone who works at height. It tells you what you need to do to comply with the Work at Height Regulations 2005 as amended by the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007.

The Regulations apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury. This revision incorporates a change to paragraph 9 of the leaflet, in light of the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007. Contents: Using this information; Why are these rules important; What is 'work at height'? What do the Schedules to the Regulations cover? Do the rules apply to you? What you must do as an employer?

Health and safety in roof work

Roofers account for nearly a quarter of all workers killed in falls from height. Moreover, falls through fragile materials, such as roof lights and asbestos cement roofing sheets, account for more of these deaths than any other cause. Accordingly, this revised edition contains enhanced guidance on how to plan and work safely. Encompassing pertinent subjects such as new buildings, repair, maintenance, cleaning work and demolition, it also includes safety pre-emption advice for those not directly carrying out roof work such as clients, designers and specifiers.
